THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE OF MUSIC

Music is one of the oldest forms of communication and it is still used to day to communicate. It has the power to influence and educate people. Music can be seen as a universal language which is understandable by everyone. Wherever you go you will always be confronted by music. Many musicians use music to communicate their experiences in life. Rap artists express their feelings and experiences of the hardships that they experienced in the “hoods”. Music has the power to motivate people by carrying a positive message in the lyrics to motivate people to bring about a change. The 46664 concert in South Africa is one that collects contributions to fight against HIV/AIDs in the country. Well known musicians from all over perform to create awareness and motivate people to lend a hand in the fight against the epidemic. Musicians have gained a lot of power and respect and they can therefore come together to spread a motivational message through music. The lyrics contained in a song have the power to express ones feelings precisely when they are lost for words. Music can be used to communicate aspects of love, sadness, hate, and happiness. It has the power to bring people together. Music and dance in the Hindu culture has the ability to convey messages and traditional stories. It is an expression of a cultures beliefs and practices. This is also an effective way to teach the youth about their culture as through music and dance the youth will be more interested as the experience will be exciting.
